This year’s COPA Scholarship winners have been announced and the Canadian Office Products Association would like to extend sincere congratulations to the recipients.
Dollars for the scholarship fund are provided through cash donations from generous COPA members and throughout the year from fundraising efforts at the annual COPA Golf Tournament and Stars Gala. A prize raffle is also held at the annual golf tournament to raise additional funds.
The total amounts raised each year determine the number of scholarships that will be awarded in the following academic year as well as the value of each scholarship.
The COPA Scholarship is available to students entering first- or second-year post-secondary studies who work for, or have worked for, or whose parent/guardian/grandparent works for, a COPA member company.
In 2016, $9,000 in scholarships were awarded. And without further adieu, meet our scholarship winners:
Amy Marie Klym
“There is nothing I want more in life than to make a difference in someone else’s and this is one of the reasons I have chosen nursing as my profession. My dream job would be on a maternity or pediatrics unit. After I finish school, I plan to travel for a year around the world, as seeing the beauty in different countries is something I frequently catch myself thinking about. I cannot wait to see where this journey takes me and I am beyond grateful to be awarded this scholarship. Thank you, COPA, for giving me such an opportunity.”

“I will be attending my first year at Saint Francis Xavier University for a Bachelor of Science with a major in Kinesiology and minor in Health Sciences. After four years there, I will be heading off to Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine. My career goal is to become a Sports Medicine Physician. Being able to work with athletes and help them achieve their goals by healing and helping them work through injuries is a way I can stay connected to athletics. I’m looking forward to my years at St. Francis Xavier and for the exciting chapters ahead.”

“I will be attending the University of Waterloo for my first year of Computer Science Co-op. The moment I knew I wanted to enter the technology industry was in Grade 8. Researching endless online forums and Youtube videos, I built a gaming PC from components I didn’t even understand. From an early age, I had a fascination with technology. Studying computer science at a renowned university is an exciting prospect. With the help of COPA and my part-time employment with Staples Canada Inc., I can pursue my education while removing some of the financial burden.”

“I am entering my second year of the Biomedical sciences program at Brock University. I am also involved with the varsity rowing team; however, my true passion is in medical science and the human body. I am an avid reader and place a huge focus on my studies. I hope to make a positive impact in the medical field. I also aspire to see and experience different cultures globally and hope to find a way to work these dreams into a career. I am extremely thankful to COPA and all of its contributors for supporting me throughout this journey.”

“I will be starting my first year of Engineering at McMaster University. I am enrolled in the co-op program and plan to take full advantage and gain experience before completing my bachelor’s in engineering. After that, I plan to get a Master’s in business administration to achieve a management position in my field. One of my notable accomplishments was winning a bronze medal in the Skills Canada Competition for IT Systems and Network Administration. I am truly grateful to COPA and its member companies for aiding me and my fellow students in achieving our goals and ambitions.”

“I am currently attending McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario where I am enrolled in the Commerce Business 1 program. I am enjoying my classes so far and have an interest in Marketing so I hope to take courses that will broaden my view of the business world specifically in that sector. I am also interested in possibly studying abroad for at least one semester during my four years of university. After university I hope to work in Marketing; however, I have an interest in owning an interior design business one day. I would like to thank COPA for accepting me as a recipient of this bursary. I am very appreciative and it will lighten the financial burden that come with pursuing post-secondary education.”
The COPA board of directors and staff thank all those who contribute to the fund year after year, either through direct cash donations or by participating in fundraising initiatives at COPA events, like the auction at the annual golf tournament or the Stars Gala. Thank you!
Congratulations, recipients, and best of luck with your studies over the coming academic year!
